Questions to Guide Intervention

Function-based thinking guiding questions help problem-solving teams consider the possible skill deficits and/or environmental variables that contribute to the occurrence and maintenance of challenging behavior with the goal of addressing them in some way to hopefully result in more desirable outcomes.

Evidence-Based Behavioral Interventions

The Student Intervention Matching Forms were created and generously shared by Dr. Clayton Cook to guide problem-solving teams to match students to Evidence-Based Tier Two Behavioral Intervention(s) that have been the focus of his work that are most likely to be effective. Kaye Otten created summary “Tip Sheets” and supporting documents to help ease effective implementation of these interventions. Although the interventions included here are not the only evidence-based behavioral interventions, they are a good place to start and some are appropriate for use with all students to strengthen Tier One.
